Welsummers are a Dutch breed named for the village of Welsum in Holland where they were developed. Welsummers are known for their great temperments and large to extra large brown/terra-cotta colored eggs. They are great layers, laying upwards of 180+ eggs per year and remain productive for 3+ years of their lives. Known to be great forgers, these beautiful birds can also flourish living in more confined conditions. Males grow to 6-7 pounds while females grow to 5-6 pounds. Alhough Welsummers can technically be sexed as day old chicks (females having a darker more defined pattern than the males) mistakes can be made, therefore we sell these chicks as straight run only. Our breeding stock include Muddy Feather lines.
